Armadillos often dig burrows underneath foundations. It is important that nuisance Armadillos are removed to prevent damage. If Armadillos are left alone and not exterminated, they could bust pipes, break wires, and could potentially crack the foundation.
Armadillos which have made their way into or under any structure are removed by trapping the animals and exclusion (sealing the entry points). It may be difficult and very time consuming to trap Armadillos one by one. In most cases, you can also remove Armadillos by sealing off all of the entry points and allowing the Armadillos to exit by installing a one way exclusion device (excluder). The armadillos should still be captured though because they can still cause damage.
Armadillos naturally spend more than half of their lives in burrows they dig under the ground. This is where they sleep during the day. Armadillos are very strong diggers. Most Armadillo's diet consists of insects, specifically grubs and earthworms. That is why you might find signs of Armadillos digging in your yard. Their sharp claws allow them to dig deep holes very quickly.
The most common problem for Armadillos is when they damage lawns by searching for their food by digging. Usually, Armadillo digging is first noticed when holes are found in a lawn or landscaping beds. They may also be found by finding their burrows that are usually dug underneath the foundation of a structure.
So, you're probably wondering, how do we get rid of Armadillos!? The process is simple, but it can be a daunting task. Removing Armadillos the right way is time consuming and could be dangerous to the amateur.
This is the first step to properly identifying the correct species and that it is in fact Armadillos causing damage. Wildlife specialists will find the Armadillo signs, damage caused by digging, and be able to create a plan to remove the Armadillos, seal off the openings that allow it to enter the property, and repair any damage.
Armadillo Trapping & Removal
On any Armadillo removal program for yard Armadillos, typically it will be recommended by your wildlife control operator that Armadillos should be removed with a live, humane style cage trap. The evidence that we find is either digging marks, fecal matter, urine, or tail marks. This information is vital to a successful Armadillo removal program.
